Congrats Grads!

Congrats Grads!

Congratulations to the Class of 2018! You are now Therapy Assistants!

Two years ago, 42 strangers gathered in a classroom for orientation day!  How can it be that it feels like it was only yesterday, but also so long ago? In those 2 years, there were moments of stress and confusion, (and sometimes also tears). There was the increase in heart rate when we heard that ringtone that signaled the start of the practical exams. More importantly, there were moments of laughter, collaboration and celebrating achievement as those strangers became allies in learning, and friendships were formed.

Oh, how much we learned! We weren’t just taught from textbooks and PowerPoint. There were class discussions, research projects, guest speakers (& guest canines!), field trips and simulations. Labs had us practicing transfers (don’t forget the brakes!), cooking (who’s mastered the one-hand egg crack?), playing with toys, sticking electrodes on each other (some people got a few shocks…), auditing campus accessibility in wheelchairs, and the list goes on and on and on. And then there was practicum: from pediatrics to geriatrics,  orthopedic units to mental health.

How incredibly fortunate we have been to engage in such a diverse educational experience! Thanks to the amazing instructors who facilitated all those activities!!!

Convocation this week made our achievement official. With our diploma in our hands, we get to work for a paycheck, and not just student credit! May we all find success and happiness as we find new teams to collaborate with and new patients/clients to help.

RTASA may have some alumni opportunities, so stay connected!
